Quick answer

Front-of-cab items like sunshades, dash phone mounts and console organizers are shared between the 2016–2023 Access Cab and Double Cab. Anything behind the front seats — rear floor liners, rear seat covers, under-seat storage — is different. Floor liners and seat covers must be ordered for your exact cab.

Fits: Toyota Tacoma 2016–2023 Check carefully: Rear floor, rear seats and under-seat storage differ by cab

Short answer: everything in front of the front seats is generally shared. Everything behind them is not. The Access Cab has small rear-hinged doors and fold-up jump seats; the Double Cab has four full doors and a full rear bench.

How to tell which cab you have

  • Access Cab: two full front doors and two small rear doors that open backward. Small fold-up rear seats.
  • Double Cab: four full doors. Full rear bench with a 60/40 split.

Fitment by accessory

Accessory Shared? Notes
Windshield sunshade Yes Year matters (2016–17 vs 2018–23)
Dash phone mount Yes Same dash
Center console organizer Yes Same console
Front floor liners Usually Transmission and year still matter
Rear floor liners No Completely different rear floor
Rear seat covers No Jump seats vs full bench
Under-seat storage No Different rear seat bases
Window rain guards No Rear doors are different
Bed mat / tonneau Depends on bed Access Cab often has the 6 ft bed
Mud flaps Usually Check trim

Bed length adds a second layer

Many Access Cabs have the 6 ft bed; most Double Cabs have the 5 ft bed, with a long-bed option. Bed mats and tonneau covers are sold by bed length, not by cab. See our bed mat guide and tonneau cover guide.

Transmission adds a third

Manual and automatic Tacomas need different driver-side floor liners. Our floor liners guide explains this, and our seat covers guide covers the rear seat differences.

Identify your cab in five seconds

Look at the rear doors.

  • Double Cab: four full-size, front-hinged doors. A proper rear bench behind them
  • Access Cab: four doors, but the rear pair are smaller and rear-hinged — they open backwards, usually only after the front door is open. Behind them are small jump seats, not a bench

The badge doesn't tell you this. The hinges do.

What differs, and what doesn't

Accessory Access Cab vs Double Cab
Front floor liners Generally the same
Rear floor liners Different — the Access Cab rear floor is far shallower
Front seat covers Same, matched to trim and seat features
Rear seat covers Different — jump seats, not a bench. Many sellers don't offer an Access Cab set
Window deflectors Different rear pieces — the Access Cab's rear windows are much smaller
Under-seat storage Different or unavailable — the Access Cab has little usable space
Dog hammock covers Different — the Access Cab rear area is far too shallow for a crew-cab hammock
Bed accessories Same for the same bed length
Mud flaps Same
Windshield sunshade Same
Console organiser Same

The pattern: anything shaped to the rear of the cab differs; anything attached to the bed, the body or the front row generally doesn't.

Bed length is a separate question

Cab style and bed length are independent on the Tacoma. Access Cab and Double Cab were both available with the long bed; the short bed came on Double Cabs. So "Double Cab" tells a bed accessory nothing — measure the interior floor length from the bulkhead to the closed tailgate and buy to the inch figure.

A tonneau cover listed as "fits Tacoma Double Cab" is incomplete information.

Transmission matters too

Separately from cab style, manual-transmission trucks have a clutch pedal, and that changes the driver's footwell. Several liner makers list separate automatic and manual SKUs. If you have three pedals, that has to appear in the listing — a liner cut for an automatic can interfere with clutch travel.

So on this truck there are really three questions, not one: cab, bed length, and transmission.

How to check a listing

For anything touching the rear of the cab, search the title and first bullet for "Access Cab", "Extended Cab", "Double Cab" or "Crew Cab". Be sceptical of:

  • One rear floor liner part number listed for both cabs
  • A four-piece deflector set with no cab distinction
  • A rear seat cover sold for "Tacoma" with no cab named

A seller offering separate SKUs per cab has measured the truck.

Buying used accessories

Cab style trips people up most here, because a second-hand set of rear liners off a Double Cab looks fine in photos. Ask which cab and which transmission, not just which year.
